Let go of who you think you’re supposed to be; embrace who you are
Brené Brown
Counselling can be helpful if you’re feeling painful emotions or facing difficult decisions, if you want to improve or change your relationships, or if you’d like to develop a better understanding of yourself or others. Perhaps something unsettling has happened, such as a bereavement, redundancy, divorce or health scare. There may be something in your past that’s not been dealt with and is now interfering with your daily life. Or you may want help to cope with issues such as anxiety, stress, an eating disorder or personal problem solving. You may feel isolated and have no one to talk to, but sometimes even those with the most supportive friends and family can find it difficult to explain why they’re feeling anxious or depressed. Or you might just find it easier to talk about personal, family or relationship issues with someone independent. But you don’t have to be in, or on the verge of crisis, before having therapy. You might be feeling dissatisfied with life in general or seeking balance in your life. I will provide you with a safe, confidential space and the valuable time to help you work through whatever is holding you back allowing you to make positive changes in your life.
When it’s your child who’s struggling with their mental health you can feel powerless and trying to get them help can feel like hitting a series of brick walls. I offer young people a safe and confidential space to talk about their experiences and worries.
I am professionally trained to listen without judgement and encourage young people to make positive decisions for themselves. The process is proactive, and I will adjust the therapy and employ the techniques that best fit the young person’s needs. A range of strategies are used, including symbolic, creative, behavioural, cognitive and psycho-educational.
I can help with a range of issues including stress, anxiety, low mood, bullying, bereavement, low self-esteem, family problems, self-harm and relationship issues. Outcomes are goal-based and sessions are focused on empowering young people and facilitating positive change.
